A Week of Meals on One Page: How to Plan and Shop
A weekly meal plan does two jobs at once: it answers “what’s for dinner?” before the evening rush, and it turns that answer into a single shopping list. This guide walks through a simple way to plan a week of meals on one page and shop from it, using printable pages you can fill in by hand.
Start with the week, not the recipes
Before you pick meals, look at the week itself. Which nights are busy? Which evenings does someone eat elsewhere? Mark those first. A plan that fits the calendar is easier to follow than a perfect plan that does not.
Then fill in the remaining nights. Many people find it easier to give some days a theme, such as a pasta night or a leftovers night, which cuts down the number of decisions to make.
Write the shopping list as you plan
As you add each meal, write the ingredients you do not already have onto the shopping list on the same page. Check the pantry and freezer before you add anything, so you only buy what you need.
Grouping the list by aisle saves time in the store. A grocery list organized by aisle lets you walk the shop once, instead of crossing back for forgotten items.
Leave room for prep and leftovers
Add short prep notes next to the meals that need them, such as thawing something the day before or chopping vegetables on Sunday. Plan one meal that makes enough for leftovers, and write down where those leftovers will go later in the week.
