A Kids Chore Chart and Reward System That Is Easy to Keep Up

A chore chart works when everyone in the house can see it and understand it at a glance. This guide explains how the Kids Chore Chart and Reward System Printable is set up, how to print and post it, and how a simple routine, a chart and a reward menu can fit together.

The idea in one line

The system is built on a simple loop: see the chore, check it off, earn the reward. Everything in the printable supports one of those three steps.

What is in the printable

The Kids Chore Chart and Reward System Printable is two PDFs, US Letter and A4, with 13 pages each. It includes:

  • A weekly chore chart for one child and a family chart for up to four kids
  • Morning and bedtime routine charts
  • Chore cards to cut out (8 per page, two pages)
  • A reward menu in three tiers, a 30-day star chart and an allowance tracker
  • An age guide for ages 2 to 12 and up, and a family meeting page

The chart and the cards have typeable fields, so you can type the chore names into the PDF before you print, or write them in by hand.

Setting it up

  1. Choose the chart. Use the weekly chart for one child, or the family chart if several children share one page.
  2. Add the chores. Type the chore names into the PDF, or write them in. Keep them short and specific.
  3. Print and post. Put the chart where the kids will see it every day, such as the fridge or a bedroom door.
  4. Check off each day. A simple tick or a star works.
  5. Trade stars for rewards. The reward menu has three tiers, so smaller and larger rewards are laid out in advance.

Using the age guide

The age guide covers ages 2 to 12 and up and is there to help you choose chores that suit each child’s age. Use it as a starting point and adjust to your own family.

Morning and bedtime routines

Two routine charts cover the start and end of the day. They are separate from the chore chart, which keeps chores and daily routines from crowding one page. Print one, both or neither.

The chore cards

The chore cards print eight to a page, across two pages. Cut them out and use them in whatever way suits your house: laid out on a table, clipped to a board or drawn from a jar.

A family meeting page

The printable includes a page for a short family meeting. It is a place to write down what is going well, what to change and what the rewards should be for the next week. Involving the kids in picking items for the reward menu is one way to set it up.

The star chart and allowance tracker

The 30-day star chart tracks a month of progress on one page. The allowance tracker gives you a place to record what has been earned, if you use an allowance. Neither is required; use the parts that suit your family.
