How to Set Up a Printable Reading Log and Book Tracker

A reading log gives every book a place to land: what you meant to read, what you finished and what you thought of it. This guide shows how to set up a printable reading log and book tracker, page by page, so you can keep a year of reading in one place.

Start with a reading goal and a to-be-read list

The Reading Log and Book Tracker Printable opens with a my reading year goals page, followed by two to-be-read pages. Write the goal first, in whatever form suits you, then list the books you want to get to. A written list is easy to check when you are choosing what to read next.

Log each book

There are three book log pages for recording every book you read. Fill one in as you finish each book, so the log stays current. The pages are undated, so you can start in any month.

Write a short review

The tracker has six book review pages. Each has space for a summary, a favorite quote, what I thought, who should read it and a rating. Keep it short: a few lines in each box is enough to remind you of the book later. If you read more than six books, print extra review pages as you need them.

Add some variety with the extra trackers

  • A reading challenge bingo page
  • A library tracker, for books you have borrowed or put on hold
  • A series tracker, for keeping your place in a series
  • A favorite quotes page
  • A year in review page, to look back at the end of the year

How it is meant to be used

  1. Download and print.
  2. List the books you want to read.
  3. Log each book and write a short review.

Printing and paper

The printable comes as two PDFs, US Letter and A4, with 19 pages each. The pages are undated and single sided. Five color sets are included in the download: Classic Green, Ocean Blue, Charcoal Gray, Sunset Orange and Plum Purple, so you can pick the one you like. A binder or a folder keeps the pages together.

See how the layout feels first

If you would like to try a printable planner page before buying, our Free Printable Samples page lists free pages you can download, and the Free Printables page has more. The free Habit Tracker sample, for example, has a goal worksheet, a monthly habit tracker and a weekly check-in.
